Character Lab is held LIVE on Zoom, so you can participate from anywhere. Because this is an interactive, hands-on class, cameras are required to be ON so you can fully participate in the coaching, exercises, and class experience.

Each Character Lab session is approximately 2.5 hours. Both classes will also be recorded, and paid students will receive access to the recordings afterward.

Yes! Character Lab is designed for actors at different stages of their careers. You may be developing your craft and working toward your first television booking, or you may already be a working actor preparing for guest stars, recurring roles, series regulars, and larger film roles. Everyone comes into the Lab at a different level, and my job is to meet you where you are and challenge you from there.

Come on in. Being a working actor doesn’t mean there isn’t another level to your work. In fact, as the roles get bigger, the character work gets bigger too. I’ll coach you based on where you are now and where you’re trying to go. Even if your first self-tape is strong, expect me to challenge you to explore what else might be possible.

Yes. Both self-tapes are an important part of the Character Lab experience. You’ll submit your first tape before Class One so we can see where your instincts and process take you naturally. After learning the Character Lab principles and receiving my feedback, you’ll tape the same material again. That before-and-after process is how we get to see the transformation: Same actor. Same scene. New tools. Deeper work.

Ideally, yes. You’ll get the most from Character Lab by attending both sessions live. However, Class One is required and cannot be missed. That is where you’ll learn the Character Lab process, receive the foundational training, and get the information you’ll need to create your second tape. If you’re unable to attend Class Two live, you may still participate. You’ll submit your second self-tape as required, and I will still review your work and give you feedback during the class. You can then watch the recording afterward.

Yes. Both sessions will be recorded, and the recordings will be made available to all paid Character Lab students.
This also means you’ll be able to go back and revisit the teaching, coaching, and discoveries that happened in the room.

No—and that distinction is important. We are using self-tapes as a tool so we can see your character work before and after the training. Character Lab isn’t about lighting, framing, readers, self-tape equipment, or trying to create the “perfect” audition. It’s about creating characters. We’re digging into how you take what’s on the page and build a specific, dimensional human being—whether you’re working on a co-star, guest star, recurring role, series regular, or film.

Yes. That’s the LAB part of Character Lab. I don’t want to simply teach you concepts and send you on your way. I want to see you apply them. I’ll personally review your work, give you feedback, challenge your choices, and help you explore where the character could go deeper.

Only 10 max. And that’s intentional. I want enough time to actually work with each actor—not rush through your tape because there are 50 people waiting behind you. Keeping the Lab to 10 actors gives us room for individual feedback, questions, exploration, and real-time coaching.

You go back to the Lab. You’ll take everything you’ve learned in Class One—my Character Lab principles, your discoveries, and my personal feedback—and apply it to the same scene you submitted before we met. Then you’ll submit Tape #2. During Class Two, we’ll look at the work again and explore what changed, what became more specific, where you went deeper, and what you can carry into future characters. Because the goal isn’t simply to make one self-tape better. The goal is to change the way you build characters.
